doors closing so

it is only right
that you too should close those soft and narrowed caramel eyes,
sweet but stale and hardened,

only right
that it would take a crow bar
to get into this with you
and I left my toolbox in texas,
brushed the rust from my hands and smoothed the front of my dress,
touched my hair and glanced myself
in the glass facade of a box-shaped store.

doors closing so
it is only good
that I take my purchases to the register
or, taking note of required assembly,
leave you on the shelf.
